The weekend of the 20th of May marked the first annual Prefect Leadership Camp at the tranquil Uylenvlei Retreat where, despite the cold weather, smoke could be seen coming from the ears of the Grade 11 learners during practical workshops over the three – day event.
Proceedings kicked off on Friday afternoon when Rev. B van Zyl lead the team through very fundamental principals defining the characteristics of being a leader.
The following morning the prefects could be seen scouring the beachfront of Kleinbaai harbour for anything classified as pollutants. The findings a mere hour and a half later were shocking to say the least. Proceedings were lead by Dyer Island Conservation Trust.
The morning of Saturday back at base camp saw the Prefects hard at work during three consecutive sessions let by Mr. and Mrs. Deon and Aida Rabie, Fanie Bothma from the Business Chamber and Mr J. Mostert respectively. All these workshops were at their core based on the six pillars of building character through various heartfelt insights and personal experiences by these fantastic speakers. Mr Mostert also used the opportunity to role out the first fund raising project for the Prefect Group of 2011.
Reverent D. van Dyk concluded proceedings on Sunday morning.
We’d also like to thank White Shark Projects for coming forward to assist us in transporting the learners back and forth as well as Oom Boet , Hanette and Morne van Deventer for their lovely facilities on the lifestyle farm, Uylenvlei Retreat. Special thanks to Morne and Hanette for the lovely meals prepared throughout.
In retrospect it was, without a shadow of a doubt, a very insightful weekend which promises great things from this group of outstanding leaders not only back at school, but in the community as well.
